Fire Danger Indicator

The fire danger indicator is updated every day so you can know about the risks of fire on the trail.  Campfires are allowed in specific locations (see the FAQ), when the indicator is low (Bas) or moderate (Modéré).  The International Appalachian Trail Crosses three sectors on the SOPFEU Fire Danger Map.

Matane, Chic-Chocs: most of the Matapedia Valley section, the Matane Wild Life Reserve section, the Gaspesie National Park, the Upper Gaspe section and a part of Gaspe Coast are covered.

Baie-des-Chaleurs: the southern portion of the Matapedia Valley is covered.

Gaspe: most of the Gaspe Coast section and the Forillon Canada National Park are covered.

The SOPFEU (Société de protection des forêts contre le feu: lit. Forest Protection Against Fire Society) is dedicated to “Optimize the protection of forests against fire in a cost-effective manner so that forest-related resources can be sustained and continue to benefit all communities.”  Their Internet site is full of prevention tips.
