SERVICE OF SELF-GUIDED HIKE ON THE IAT-QC / GR®A1

Go to the discovery of the first GR® in America, the GR® A1!

To discover this long distance hiking trail, we propose a self-guided day hike, or several days, service on one of the three territories traversed by the IAT-QC (the Valley, the Chic-Chocs and the Cost) for singles, couples, families or groups of friends. The goal is to mentor you in the preparation of this hike and provide you the necessary information tools (hiking sheet with a topo map, road map, emergency plan, geolocation device "SPOT", briefing before departure, checking equipment, weather, etc.) so that hiking activities is safe and appropriate for your level of experience.

There are many choices of day hike and levels of difficulty. Some hikes consist of round trip, while others are in a loop, but we still have as a goal to reach a summits or an unforgettable view.

Difficulty Level:Our hikes take place on uneven ground, including varying elevation. They are accessible to anyone in good health with basic hiking experience (day hikes). According to the group capacity, we walk between 4 and 8 hours a day, for a distance ranging from 5 to 18 km (3 to 11 miles).

Security: We provide a global positioning device "SPOT" to allow hikers to advise us in case of emergency and to confirm that they have completed their tours. With employees in maintenance, customer service, our guides and volunteers, we provide search and rescue services in cooperation with the police (Sûreté du Québec 911).

Conditions: Guaranteed departures from June 25 to September 30, reservations 48 hours in advance.

Meeting Point and Transport: The point of appointment is to the office of IAT-QC (Phare de Matane) at 968, avenue du Phare Ouest, Matane, Qc. Tel. 418-560-4642.

Equipment: Day pack, shoes or hiking boots, 2 liters of water, lunch and snack, waterproof coats or windbreaker, sweater fleece hat and gloves in cool weather. Suggestions: walking sticks, sunscreen and insect repellent, sunglasses, hat, headlamp, camera.

Not included:Lunch and snacks, equipments, federal (5%) and provincial (9.975%) taxes, transportation (you will need your car to get to the departure points).

Cost:

  • 20 $ CAD daily (single person, couple, family).
  • 30 $ CAD daily (single person, couple, family). Including the rental of the geo-location device "SPOT"    
  • 30 $ CAD daily (groups of 6 or more).
