A first GR® in America: GR® A1!

This is in Forillon National Park, 2 October 2015 the French Federation of Hiking (FFRandonnée) inaugurated the first route of “Grande Randonnée” (GR ®) in North America, GR®A1, for the approval of 650 km of the International Appalachian trail - Québec (IAT-QC). This certification aims to guarantee the quality and sustainability of routes which it is granted, in accordance with criteria normage recognized and proven.

What is a GR® ?

  

A GR® (Grande Randonnée), is a route supported by a network of trail(s) which allows you to browse over several days:

  • One or more  region(s): In France, we can cite the GR®20 in Corsica or the GR®3 Mont Gerbier de Jonc (Ardèche) in Nantes (Loire-Atlantique).
  • A Massive: the GR®10 in the Pyrenees or GR®54 around the Ecrins massif. 
  • Whole country: GR®5 Netherlands to the Mediterranean or the GR®65 left Geneva (Switzerland) and ends in St. Jacques de Compostela (Spain). 

They can follow on foot, guided by the uniform markup consists of a white line and a red line superimposed. 

The GR® carry a number and a name, they are approved by the French Federation of Hiking.
