From Rivière-au-Renard to Cap-Gaspé 45 km
A landscape of sea and mountain, host starting or arrival of the International Appalachian Trail, the Forillon Canada National Park will show you some of all the colors, of the beginning at the any end of your excursion. The course of 1 079 km starts or finishes in Cap-Gaspe, all at the end of the Gaspe Peninsula, nothing less!
The Forillon segment of the IAT begins with Rivière-au-Renard to finish in Cap-Gaspe, result terrestrial of the chain of the Appalachian Mountains. High mountains, peaks, bay and peninsula form integral part of the landscape which accompanies you in the course of road. Of a total distance of 45 km, it crosses the national park from west to east. We divide the Forillon segment into two sections: the back-country and the peninsula.
This section of 36 km connects Rivière-au-Renard to Grande-Grave. It is the most broken part and especially most wild because of its distance and about few arranged structures. The back-country of Forillon, which borrows the trails the Lakes and the Peaks of the national park, includes three surfaces of wild camp-site like some view-points. Perhaps this country of the black bear and the moose will enable you to observe these faunal species. The culminating of this section is observation tower of the Saint-Alban mount, located at 283 meters of altitude, which offers a spectacular panorama give you a view on the river and the gulf, the bay of Gaspe, Forillon, Gaspe and Perce. On the far coast, in clear weather, be victim of an illusion with the appearance of Anticosti, so far.
Located in Grand-Grave at Cape-Gaspé, this section is undoubtedly most spectacular but especially most accessible. Its relatively short distance (9 km) makes it a place very appreciated by the less tested walkers. Many installations facilitate the excursion: staircases, view-points, culverts, panels of interpretation and shelter-kitchen. The point puts in scene imposing decorations and majestic characters: seals, and whales could join the troop.
